A Youth Group Outing Everyone Will Talk About on Sunday
Youth pastors and leaders know the challenge: find church youth group activities that get students off their phones, pull the quiet kids into the fun and give leaders a real chance to connect. Axe throwing does all three. At Axe-Mania, your group gets its own projected lanes, a coach who teaches the basics, and games that turn a regular Wednesday or Friday night into the outing students keep talking about.
We are a family-owned venue in Kingwood, just off Highway 59 and an easy drive for churches in Humble, Atascocita, New Caney, Porter, Spring and the rest of the Lake Houston area. Youth ministries, small groups, men’s and women’s ministries and whole church families all fit right in.

Small Groups and Bible Studies
Swap the living room for the lanes and give your small group a story to share.

Friendly competition and real conversation between rounds in the lounge.
Family Ministry Outings
Parents, kids and grandparents can all throw on the same lanes together.
Leader and Volunteer Appreciation
Thank the people who show up every week with a night that is all about fun.
Raise money for camp, a mission trip or a service project. Your church earns a portion of every lane sold.
Is Axe Throwing Safe for a Youth Group?
Parents and youth leaders always ask, and it is a fair question. Safety is built into every session at Axe-Mania:
- Ages 8 and up can throw, which covers most youth ministries and family events.
- Waivers for everyone. Every thrower signs a release waiver, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to sign. Send families the online waiver ahead of time to keep check-in quick.
- Coaching and lane supervision. Our staff give every group safety instructions and stay close by on the lanes.
- Anti-bounce borders and enclosed lanes keep throws where they belong.
- Closed-toe shoes are required for everyone, so remind students to leave the sandals at home.
Snacks and soft drinks are available for everyone, and beer and wine are only served to guests 21 and up. For the complete rundown, read our axe throwing rules, safety and age limits guide.
Youth Group Activity Ideas to Build Around the Lanes
A great outing has a little structure. A few ideas youth leaders can borrow:
- Leaders vs. students: split into teams, run a bracket and let the students try to knock off the youth pastor.
- Team tournament: split into small groups, keep a running scoreboard and crown a champion team at the end of the night.
- Tie it to the lesson: open with a short devotional on teamwork or encouragement, such as “iron sharpens iron” from Proverbs 27:17, then let the lanes put it into practice.
- Photo targets: the Axe Photos game puts pictures from players’ phones on the target. Leaders who volunteer their own photos win instant credibility.
- Make it a full night: pair the lanes with the arcade, then grab dinner nearby. Our things to do in Kingwood guide has more stops to add.
See every game mode on our axe throwing games page.
Youth Group Games and Icebreakers to Pair With the Lanes
Some of the best church youth group activities happen between turns. While one team throws, the rest of the group can gather in the lounge for quick youth group games that get students talking to each other:
- Two Truths and a Lie: a classic icebreaker that works great while teams wait for their next round.
- Would You Rather: keep a list of fun questions on your phone and let the winning team pick the next one.
- High and Low: each person shares a high and a low from their week, a simple way to build friendships and real conversations.
- Prayer circle to close: end the night with a short time of prayer and fellowship before everyone heads home.
Planning a summer camp reunion, a welcome night for new students or a mission trip fundraiser? The lanes give every event a shared challenge that brings the group together, and the time in between is where the growth and connection with God and with each other happens.
